《怪物猎人P2G(PSP移植)版》是是前作《怪物猎人》初代的家用机续作，基本继承了原有的优良成分，虽然前作《怪物猎人》初代一经推出就获得空前的好评，但是设计理念仅是为了配合CAPCOM的网络服务而推出的一款实验性游戏（当时的重点仍在《生化危机》），所以游戏中的尝试性的痕迹非常明显，与之后的作品相差甚远，而且还存在着怪物数量少，游戏模式单调的弊病，所以在本作中，《怪物猎人》正式成为了CAPCOM新兴的个品牌，不仅实验性小品级游戏的感觉一扫而光，而且模式变得极端丰富，系统也是高度完成化。
