1998: The Toll-man's Story is a narrative simulation game about survival, motherhood and moral issues in a time of state collapse, inspired by one of the darkest chapters in Indonesian history. You play as a pregnant toll collector, Dewi, caught up in the growing civil strife and financial turmoil in the fictional Southeast Asian nation of Janapa. The country is on the brink of collapse-protests erupt, prices are soaring and trust in authority is fading. With each shift, you check vehicles, verify documents, and decide who can get through-while working to ensure safety, keep your job, and protect your unborn child.
